The governmental follow-up committee in the Gaza Strip confirmed, Saturday evening, the implementation of the decisions it had taken days ago regarding the travel ban, the suspension of the study and other measures aimed at confronting the "Corona Virus" threat.
This came on the heels of a committee meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, with leaders of the Palestinian factions.
Mohamed Awad, head of the committee, said that it was decided to close the Gaza crossings in both directions until further notice, while allowing travel for emergency situations.
He affirmed that students ’enrollment in educational institutions will remain suspended until the end of this month.
Awad pointed out that a new decision was taken to prevent institutions from establishing any gatherings of more than 100 people,
He indicated that all necessary precautions have been taken to counter the virus. Calling on citizens to provide a role model in committing to this.
He reiterated the importance of avoiding being in crowded places in general, while emphasizing avoiding elderly people, people with chronic diseases and those suffering from flu symptoms from being in crowded places, including performing prayers in mosques.
The official of the Governmental Follow-up Committee pointed out that the Ministry of Interior was tasked with taking control measures to compel the detainees in their homes to follow the relevant instructions and take the necessary measures against violators, including arrest and transfer to quarantine at the Rafah crossing and referring to the Attorney General on charges of violating community security.
For his part, Khalil al-Hayya, a member of Hamas´ political bureau, said that his movement is following up with all parties to take the necessary measures to prevent this virus from reaching Gaza.
He stressed that Gaza is free from the Coruna virus and has not recorded any infections so far.
He stressed the necessity of taking any measures imposed by the Ministry of Health seriously.
"Restricting freedom is easier than contracting this virus," he said. Noting that the Islamic religion orders quarantine in the event of any epidemic.
The Hamas leader called on the media to ensure that people are made aware of preventive measures.
