The US administration of Donald Trump on Tuesday launched its plan for peace in the Middle East after a two-and-a-half-year wait at a workshop in Bahrain that presented the economic aspects of the plan in a Palestinian district.
The Manama workshop will open today at a luxury hotel in the capital of the small Gulf Kingdom, which will last until Wednesday. The conference isaired by Jared Kouchner, Trump´s advisor and son-in-law.
It will be the first time that a part of the long-awaited plan has been publicly presented. The political aspect, which is illegally to provide for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, will not be disclosed before November.
From the economy gate, the US administration gathered at the lavish hotel in Bahrain at the opening dinner hall, officials from Gulf and Arab countries, Western officials and representatives of Israel that do not have diplomatic relations with Bahrain.
The plan proposes attracting more than $ 50 billion in investments for Palestinians, creating one million jobs for them and doubling their gross domestic product, with a 10-year implementation, according to the White House.
The conference will be attended by ministers and financial officials from Gulf countries, US Treasury Secretary Stephen Menuchin and IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde.
The Palestinians boycotted the workshop, saying that the economic side could not be discussed before discussing possible political solutions to the substance of the conflict.
"The transformation of America from political to economic, we said we will not come to Manama and we do not encourage anyone to go there," President Mahmoud Abbas said on Sunday.
