The PLO urges Europe to take action to prevent the Israeli annexation

The Palestine Liberation Organization today urged the European Union to take concrete measures to prevent the Israeli annexation of parts of the West Bank.

The secretary of the organization´s executive committee, Saeb Erekat, discussed, with a meeting with heads of diplomatic missions of European Union countries in Palestine, the decisions of the Palestinian leadership announced by President Mahmoud Abbas at the last Palestinian leadership meeting last Tuesday.

Erekat said in a press statement that emphasis was placed on adhering to international law to end the Israeli occupation and the two-state solution on the borders occupied since 1967.

Abbas had announced the dissolution of all agreements and understandings with the American and Israeli governments, including security agreements, in response to the Israeli plan to annex parts of the West Bank.

Meanwhile, Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Riyad Al-Maliki announced that an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will be held next month to discuss the Israeli annexation plan for parts of the West Bank.

Al-Maliki said - in a press statement - that he agreed with the Secretary-General of the Organization of Cooperation, Yousef Al-Othaimeen, during a telephone conversation between them, to hold an emergency ministerial meeting for the Executive Committee of the open-ended organization for whom he wishes.

He explained that the meeting will be devoted to discussing the risks of the Israeli plan to annex large parts of West Bank lands and impose sovereignty and Israeli law on the "illegal" Israeli settlements established on the Palestinian lands.
