Ferwana: 540 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences

he prisoner specialist, Abdel Nasser Farwana, said that (540) Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails are serving life sentences (for life) for one or several times.

"According to the report of the Israeli Prisons Administration, which monitors all relevant statistical data as of December 31, 2019, a total of (2922) prisoners, out of the total of prisoners and detainees held in the Israeli occupation prisons and who number approximately five thousand," said Farwana. They have been sentenced to actual imprisonment for various periods, including (61) children between the ages of 14-18 years.

In addition to the prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment, who numbered (540) prisoners, there are (497) prisoners who have been sentenced to actual prison terms of more than twenty years and less than life imprisonment, and (338) prisoners serving prison terms for periods ranging between 15-20 Year.

"Also, among the sentenced prisoners, there are (201) prisoners who serve prison terms ranging between 10-15 years, and (362) prisoners who have been sentenced to sentences ranging from 5-10 years.

He said, "According to the report of the Israeli Prison Administration, (984) of the total prisoners sentenced are serving sentences for actual imprisonment for different periods of less than five years."

Farwana emphasized that the Israeli judiciary is based on injustice and oppression, and the legitimacy of destroying the life and future of the Palestinian people, and that the Israeli courts were never fair and just and are an instrument of the occupation and its arbitrary and cruel rulings, and it is not permissible for it to prosecute Palestinian citizens who resist the occupier, as this resistance is a legitimate means, which was authorized All international conventions and norms, and they fall within the context of a long struggle for the Palestinian people to fight for freedom and independence.
