The American army announced on Sunday that it targeted five bases in Iraq and Syria for the Iraqi pro-Iranian Hezbollah, two days after an American was killed in a missile attack on an Iraqi military base in Kirkuk.
Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said in a statement that the strikes were carried out "in response to repeated attacks by the Hezbollah (Iraqi) Brigades on Iraqi bases that include American forces," stressing that "they will weaken the capabilities of the Hezbollah brigades to launch future attacks on coalition forces."
