The United States has officially listed Iran´s Revolutionary Guards as a "terrorist" organization, US President Donald Trump said Monday, doubling the possibility of Tougher sanctions against Tehran.
Trump said in a statement that this measure allows for increased "pressure" on Iran, adding that "this is the first time" which includes the organization "of a foreign government" on that list.
Trump said this "unprecedented" step underscores "the fact that Iran is not only a state funded by terrorism, but that the Revolutionary Guard is active in financing terrorism and promoting it as a tool of government."
Trump said that the Forces Force, an elite unit of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, is also covered by this decision.
The Quds Force is an outside wing that provides support to Tehran´s Middle East allies, such as Lebanese Hezbollah and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad´s forces.
"If you are doing business with the Revolutionary Guard, you are financing terrorism," Trump said.
