Volkswagen has recalled 9644 imported cars sold in the Chinese market because of potential safety risks.
Starting August 1, the recall will include specific imported Multivan models manufactured between January 29, 2016 and April 26, 2019, according to a statement on the State Market Regulatory Authority website.
Due to a fault in the seal, the water may seep into the vehicle, which may cause a short circuit of the controller.
The statement said that in extreme cases, this could lead to fire, posing a safety risk.
Volkswagen China promised to replace faulty components for free.
