US forces withdraw from Syria to northern Iraq

A batch of US troops left Syria on Thursday for northern Iraq, a source at the Deir al-Zour civil council said.

The source told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa that "about 100 large trucks carrying Iraqi plates transported Hummer and Humvees, armored vehicles, vehicles, weapons and engineering vehicles left the rural areas of Deir Al-Zour in the northeast towards Al-Hasakah province."

The source confirmed that "this convoy and according to soldiers in the Syrian Democratic forces headed to the crossing of Semelka on its way to Iraqi Kurdistan."

The US president announced last weekend the withdrawal of US troops from Syria.
