Gaza _ Palestine News Network

The "UNRWA" Staff union announced on Thursday the closure of the Gaza regional office from Sunday until it returned to the dialogue and negotiations with the agency´s administration.

As announced at a press conference in Bagz, the federation decided to close all the sub-offices where the administrators were exercising their duties.

The Federation also decided to close all the offices of the district chiefs and not use them as alternative offices for any other programmes.

The President of the Federation, Amir al-Mashad, announced the administrative disobedience, boycott of all workshops and evening games and the recruitment of these funds for the benefit of the target group, educational evaluation programmes and computerized education programmes.

He said it was decided to suspend the general and mass strike in all institutions, which was planned for Sunday and Monday, in order to give another opportunity to the administration of UNRWA and to the mediation that began this morning and a response and a desire for all efforts made.

The strike will be on Tuesday and Wednesday. He stressed the readiness of the Union to defuse the crisis if it were to return to the negotiating table and dialogue.

The Department of Health, Environmental health and food aid has demanded the handover of a full programme of work to the Staff Union by Thursday, he said, noting that the state of emergency will be announced in all agency institutions before the opening of an open strike to avoid environmental and health disasters as a result of the strike.

"Our steps are mutually reinforcing and we do not react, and we will give the administration another time for dialogue, as strikes are neither a goal nor an end and are not meant to restrict employees or refugees," he said. A press conference will be held next Thursday to announce either a clear-cut settlement or other trade union measures, he said.
