The United Nations said today, Tuesday, that the Corona pandemic and the worsening economic crisis in Syria raised the number of people in need of humanitarian aid to 13.4 million people, an increase of 20% over last year.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Geneva said today that the value of the Syrian currency collapsed last year by 78%, while prices rose sharply.
About two million people in Syria live in extreme poverty.
The office added that $ 4.2 billion is needed this year to help Syrians in a country devastated by nearly a decade of unrest and civil war.
