The WHO emergency committee will assess the course of the epidemic on Thursday

WHO Director-General Tidros Adanum Gebresos announced Wednesday that emergency committee experts will meet on Thursday to assess the course of the Covid-19 epidemic, three months after declaring a state of health emergency globally.

With increasing criticism of the global health authorities, Gebresus presented all the measures taken since January, and announced that he would "call again tomorrow the Emergency Committee (...) to assess the evolution of the epidemic."

On January 30, the organization announced that the situation required a "state of health emergency internationally", which means that the emergency committee should meet at least once every three months.

It is the first time that the Director-General of the Organization has again invited the Committee to the meeting since 30 January, when only 82 cases of coronavirus were registered outside China, without counting any deaths.

"During these three months, the World Health Organization has worked day after day to warn, support nations and save lives," said the WHO director.

If a large number of countries and leaders announced their support for the organization, then some are beginning to express doubts or criticisms. And the matter in the United States suspended its funding.

French President Emmanuel Macron questioned Beijing´s strategy after the country´s first injuries appeared at the end of 2019.

The organization´s director reiterated on Wednesday that the latter committed itself to "transparency", reiterating its call "for unity at the national level and solidarity at the global level."

"More than ever, humans must unite to defeat the virus."

"I have already said, this virus can lead to more destruction than any terrorist attack. It may cause political, economic and social upheavals."
