The Israeli occupation Army on Sunday published photographs showing the progress of the water barrier separating the maritime border areas between the Gaza Strip and the "Zikim" base on the occupied Ashkelon shore.
Two months ago, the Israeli occupation announced the construction of the barrier, which was described as "the first of its kind in the world", off the shore of Zikim, a few kilometers north of Gaza. "
The photographs showed that the water barrier consisted of earthen barricades, which buried 200 metres of sea water along the border areas of the sector, breaking the waves, as well as a barbed-wire fence a few kilometres north of Gaza.
The barrier is 200 metres long, with a base width of 50 metres, with a wall of six metres high.
The occupation alleges that its aim is to "prevent security threats" and "infiltrate" elements of the military wing of Hamas to conduct a naval commando operation.
