The Tunisian government announced today, Friday, that the European Union will spend the first installment of its aid to the country, amounting to a total of 600 million euros, in early June.
The ambassador of the European Union, Marcus Cornaro, stated that the European Union will spend 300 million euros to help Tunisia cope with the repercussions of the Corona epidemic from an aid program that has been agreed upon since November 2020.
In a press statement issued by the Presidency of the Government, Marcos said that this financial installment is added to the donations made by the European Union to Tunisia, to mobilize the state budget for the year 2020, estimated at 240 million euros.
Tunisia experienced the worst growth of its economy since the mid-twentieth century, with a contraction rate of 8% in 2020, under the impact of the epidemic, and this cost thousands of job opportunities in the tourism, services and transport sectors in particular.
