The prosecutor in Chad said that the bodies of 44 Boko Haram fighters were found in cells, in what appears to be a suicide operation.
Youssef Tom, a prosecutor, said that the autopsy conducted on four of the prisoners concluded that they had ingested toxin.
The prisoners died last Thursday and Friday. It is not yet clear how the prisoners got poison inside the prison.
"For the other 14 prisoners who survived this process, legal action will be taken against them," Tom added.
It is noteworthy that the fighters were arrested during an operation led by the President of Chad Idriss Deby himself. The Chadian army said that during this ten-day operation, thousands of Boko Haram fighters were killed and dozens of them detained.
