Several student organizations and clubs at the University of Berkeley Law School in California, USA, have added an article to their bylaws that considers Israel an apartheid state, and opposes colonialism, racism and settlement in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The item calls on the university to withdraw its investments, sever its academic relationship with the occupying state, and stop dealing with institutions and companies complicit in the occupation of Palestine.
Among the university organizations that have added the clause to their bylaws: Berkeley Muslim Students Association, Middle East and North African Law Students Association, Colored Students League, Asia Pacific American Law Students Association, Progressive Student Association, Community Defense Project Association, Organization University of Berkeley Law Students and the African American Law Students Association.
The "Students for Justice in Palestine" organization at the University of Berkeley Law School adopted a campaign of communication with student organizations to persuade them to add the item, as part of a tendency to transform student organizations´ community with the Palestinian right into a strategic decision stipulated in their internal regulations and constitutions out of their support for social justice inside and outside the United States .
It is noteworthy that the College of Law at the University of California, Berkeley, was founded in 1894 and is one of the ten most important and oldest American law schools, and it is one of the 14 colleges at the university.
