Seven dead in a knife attack in China

A man armed with a knife killed seven people and wounded seven others on Sunday in a small city in northeastern China for reasons that are still unknown, according to an official media outlet.

The new China News Agency said that the tragedy occurred Sunday morning in a street in Kaiyuan in Liaoning Province.

Seven were killed and seven wounded in what appeared to be a "random attack". The agency stated that the police arrested the perpetrator.

The Kaiyuan Public Security Bureau said in a statement posted on the Weibo social networking site that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crime.

Knife attacks are relatively common in China, especially since ordinary citizens are forbidden from carrying firearms.

It is often waged by individuals who consider themselves victims of society´s injustice and desire revenge.

In February 2019, a man stabbed eight people and injured seven others after he was suspected of his wife practicing fornication in a village in Gansu Province, northwest of the country.

In April 2018, a person killed eight students in Changi Province (North) and injured 12 others, claiming that he was a victim of harassment while he was a student at the same school.
