Lawyers Hosni Abu Hussein and Sami Irsheid thwarted today, Thursday, an attempt by settlers to evict the families of Al-Jaouni, Al-Qassem, Al-Kurd, and a cobbler from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of occupied Jerusalem.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Jerusalem Affairs, the Ministry of Jerusalem Affairs said that thwarting the settlers’ attempt to evict the families of Al-Jaouni, Al-Qasim, Al-Kurd, and Shoemaker from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah is an achievement worthy of appreciation, calling at the same time to remain vigilant and alert to the settlers’ attempts to implement their settlement plans.
The ministry praised the residents´ steadfastness, the dedication of lawyers Abu Hussein and Arsheed, and their outstanding performance in defending families, commissioned by the government.
She said, "The success of the legal defense team in obtaining a decision from the Israeli Supreme Court to reject the petition submitted by the settlers to reconsider before an expanded panel of judges, with the court´s recent decision to cancel the eviction decisions issued against four families from the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood (Al-Jaouni, Al-Qasim, Al-Kurd and Eskafi) is an achievement recorded in favor of Outstanding and diligent crew.
She pointed out that the legal team has been working for many years to ensure the survival of dozens of Palestinian families in their homes where they have resided for decades, and to thwart the plan to establish an Israeli settlement on its ruins.
And she continued: "In addition to its success in thwarting settlers´ attempts to evict families from the homes they have resided in since 1956, the legal staff succeeded in conveying the voice of truth, "the voice of Palestinian families" to the whole world, which thwarted the ethnic cleansing attempts in the authentic Palestinian neighborhood.
And she added, "We say this, and we are aware that the Israeli courts were never fair to the Palestinian people, and that they would not have taken this decision without the steadfastness of the population, the dedicated defense of the lawyers´ staff and the local and international campaigns that support our people in Sheikh Jarrah, in their just and just cause."
The ministry stressed that "this calls for continued vigilance and alertness to the settlers´ attempts, which have not and apparently will not stop, to implement their settlement plans in Sheikh Jarrah and other Jerusalem neighborhoods."
The Ministry of Jerusalem Affairs saluted the families in the city of Jerusalem in general and Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in particular, for their steadfastness in the face of conspiracies hatched by Israeli official institutions with settler groups to evict Palestinians from their city, including the use of brutality and abuse at night and day.
