According to a recent American study, taking three quarters of a cup of strawberries daily helps reduce harmful inflammation of the bowel, which infects the intestine.
The study was carried out by researchers at the American University of Massachusetts, who presented the results on Monday at the annual meeting of the American Chemical Society, to be held from Aug. 19 to 23: August in Boston, the US city.
Inflammation of the bowel disease is a comprehensive term used to describe disorders involving chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, including ulcerative colitis, and Crohn´s disease which causes the inflammation of the gastrointestinal lining.
Ulcerative colitis and Crohn´s disease are usually associated with severe diarrhoea, abdominal pain, fatigue and weight loss, and the disease may cause weakness and sometimes lead to life-threatening complications.
To arrive at the results of the study, the group observed four groups of rats, the first of which were non-communicable, and consumed a regular diet, while the remaining three groups were infected with intestinal inflammation.
The researchers gave rats full strawberry powder, equivalent to about a quarter of a cup of strawberries that humans can eat every day.
The researchers found that the dietary intake of strawberries by up to three quarters of a daily strawberry Cup in humans, has markedly halted symptoms such as body weight loss and bloody diarrhea in rats infected with intestinal inflammation, and has reduced inflammatory responses in the tissues of coli rats.
The Group noted that the decrease in inflammation was not the only benefit to the brakes during this study, and that the colon infections usually adversely affect the composition of the intestinal bacteria, increase the formation of the harmful bowel bacteria and reduce the proportion of the bacteria of the useful bowel.
The researchers noted that strawberries overcame this pathological condition, led to increased formation of beneficial bowel bacteria, and reduced the proportions of harmful bacteria in the intestines, which led to a regular metabolism and reduced colon infections.
The Panel noted that the results of the study could be tested on intestinal inflammation patients, with three quarters of a strawberry cup per day, to promote the health of the digestive system.
