Russian officials on Wednesday condemned new US sanctions targeting Russian law enforcement officials, saying they would be followed by retaliatory measures.
"We consider the new sanctions resolutions on representatives of Russian law enforcement agencies totally unacceptable," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
He added that the sanctions were a continuation of Washington´s destructive policy of US-Russian relations, and that Moscow would take the "appropriate reaction."
While Peskov did not give details about the reprisals, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on Wednesday that Russia was likely to expand the list of US citizens barred from entering its territory.
"They think we will acquiesce to sanctions, but this will never happen," he said, adding that if the United States gave up expanding the blacklist of Russians, Moscow would follow suit.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The US State Department on Tuesday imposed an entry ban on two senior Russian investigative officials and their families for allegedly torturing members of a religious group that the Russian Supreme Court called a "radical organization" in 2017.
