Russia´s ruling party, United Russia, supports a new proposal demanding that the country´s weekly working days be reduced to just four days, Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Andrei Isayev said.
He added that the inclusion of a shorter working week gives Russian employees additional time for their families and their own interests, without affecting the value of their monthly income.
The measure, if implemented, is expected to reduce unemployment.
He pointed out that the implementation of the new agenda will be gradual, so that companies and employees to cope with the change, while work on the draft resolution begins at the beginning of next month.
Almost half of the population (43%) oppose the new proposal, which they fear will affect its monthly incomes, while Isayev said monthly salaries should be left unchanged.
The four-day proposal was first issued by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev while embarking on his support for Russia´s largest trade union group, the Union of Independent Professional Trade Unions.
