Russia´s Consumer Protection and Protection Commission has launched investigations into the business of Facebook and Twitter on the territory of the Russian Federation.
"The two companies did not comply with Russian laws and provided sufficient answers to them in terms of their work in the country and their commitment to data protection rules," the agency said.
"On January 18, Facebook and Twitter sent responses to the Consumer Protection and Consumer Rights Commission in Russia regarding its questions about compliance with local standards, but these were formal and did not include any precise details," the agency said in a statement.
In December 2018, the TRA had requested the two companies to provide accurate information on the nature of their work in Russia and the licensing of new databases on Russian territory to preserve Russian user data.
