Russia´s S-400 cargo system will be completed by April 2023 under a $ 5 billion contract signed in India, a senior military official said Wednesday. Last October on the sidelines of Russian President Vladimir Putin´s visit to India.
In response to a question, India´s Minister of State for Defense Sheribad Naik told parliament today that India´s decision to buy missiles from Russia was based on a perceived threat, operational and technological aspects, and that it aims to maintain the readiness of the Indian armed forces .
Nike did not respond directly to a question from deputies on whether the United States had threatened India sanctions as a result of the defense system deal.
The United States has imposed sanctions on Russia´s Rosoboronexport, the Russian government responsible for exporting arms, because of Moscow´s involvement in the Ukrainian crisis.
The S-400 missile deal is subject to US sanctions under the anti-American legislation known as the Katsa Penal Code.
