Report: 40 Israeli violations against Palestinian journalists in October

A committee specialized in monitoring violations against Palestinian journalists said that it had monitored 36 violations of journalism by the Israeli occupation during the month of last October, in addition to 255 cases of suppression of Palestinian content.

The Committee to Support Journalists stated, in a report today, Sunday to it, that among those violations, six assaults on journalists during the exercise of their activities by targeting them with rubber-coated metal bullets, poisonous gas bombs, pepper gas, kicking and beating, and one’s camera was destroyed. Journalists to prevent him from filming the occupation crimes against the Palestinian people.

The committee indicated that the occupation forces arrested two journalists: Tariq Abu Zaid and Abdul Rahman Zahir, both from Nablus, while the occupation forces and intelligence detained one of the journalists (whose identity was not disclosed).

In addition, the Occupation Court issued an extension of the detention and renewal of the administrative detention of 8 imprisoned journalists

Meanwhile, the occupation forces prevented journalists from practicing their professional work in covering the occupation’s violations against Palestinians, which recorded 8 cases of prevention from coverage.

Regarding the raids and incursions into the homes of journalists, the report recorded two raids, searches, and tampering with the contents of journalists´ homes, during which computers and mobile phones were confiscated.

In the context of the occupation´s harassment of imprisoned journalists in the occupation prisons, the report recorded 5 cases of imprisoned journalists, during which they were transferred from one prison to another, and the investigation continued with them, with the aim of submitting an indictment against them on the grounds of their journalistic work, in addition to the occupation court´s refusal of the appeal presented by the journalist´s lawyer, Yahya Saleh Al-Amor.

In the context of combating Palestinian content and obliterating the occupation crimes against the Palestinian people, the committee recorded more than 255 cases of violations from social media companies, to the websites, pages and accounts of personal journalists and activists.

In terms of internal Palestinian violations, the Report of the Committee to Support Journalists recorded 4 violations against journalists, during the past month of October 2020 in the occupied West Bank.

According to the committee, journalists Samer Khoueira and Kanan Sabri were summoned and interrogated about the sources he uses in his journalistic work, and a case of raiding the homes of the journalist Jawad Abu Shamsiyeh was recorded, and a case of incitement and threats against the journalist Firas al-Tawil was monitored.
