"OCHA" reveals the toll of Palestinian buildings demolished by the Israeli occupation since 2009

The United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs "OCHA" revealed in a report, today, Saturday, the toll of Palestinian buildings demolished by the Israeli occupation since 2009.

According to the report, the number of buildings demolished by the Israeli occupation forces amounted to about Eight thousand and 746 Palestinian buildings, and thousands of Palestinian citizens were displaced from 2009 until the end of August.

OCHA said: "The demolitions led to the displacement of about 13,000 Palestinian citizens, and damage to about 152,000 others, noting that the demolitions also caused damage to about 1,559 homes, and that the demolished buildings may be residential, or related to livelihoods, or associated with the Services, or as part of the infrastructure.

He added: "These data include buildings that were directly demolished by the occupation authorities, or their owners were forced to do so."

He continued, that demolitions are usually carried out due to the lack of Israeli permits, which are almost impossible to obtain, or may be for punitive reasons, and which are carried out as part of military activities, with the aim of deterring potential resistance fighters .

The policy of demolishing Palestinian homes is an old Israeli methodology since the establishment of the occupation state in 1948. Since the Nakba, the occupation authorities have destroyed more than 500 Palestinian villages and towns.
