The "Libra " Human Rights Center on Sunday denounced the occupation army´s targeting of a school east of Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip, last Friday evening, with an artillery shell.
The center said in a statement that it "deplores the targeting of civilian facilities by the occupying forces without discrimination." "Three artillery shells were fired at the town of Abbas al-Kabir, east of Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip, two of which landed in an open area and the third inside the agency´s Abu To´eima Primary School," the Israeli army said.
According to the center, the shelling caused "partial damage within two classes in the school, which disrupted the study for a full day in the morning and evening periods yesterday, in order to carry out the maintenance and removal of the remnants of the separation."
The center stated that the targeting caused the "disruption of the educational process and cast a negative shadow on the behavior of children, which affects their academic and academic achievement."
The target school population is about 2,500 students in both the evening and morning periods, according to the centre.
Since 2000, the Al-Mizan Centre has documented 399 cases of violations of schools in the Gaza Strip that have been attacked by the Israeli army.
PCHR called on the international community to "exert pressure on Israel and compel it to respect its obligations under international law, as part of its moral and legal obligations towards the civilian population, and to act with the utmost urgency to provide protection to civilians in the occupied Palestinian territories."
