A Palestinian human Rights centre specializing in Palestinian prisoners ´ affairs called on human rights organizations to follow up on the situation of children detained in Israeli jails, and to pressure the occupation to secure their freedom and attend school to receive their education as the rest of the world´s children.
In a statement marking the beginning of the new academic year in the occupied Palestinian territories, the Israeli occupation authorities forbid nearly 300 children, including 3 underage girls, from attending their schools, bypassing their rights as affirmed in the conventions and charters and international humanitarian law, according to the statement.
"The occupation authorities are committing dozens of violations, such as psychological and physical torture, exploitation of the child´s vulnerable structure, and the use of illegal means such as deception, false promises and cruel treatment, against child prisoners," he added. Military deterrent courts, unjust laws, penalties for fines, solitary confinement, use of force, detention in places that are not worthy of their age, and provocative searches. "
He indicated that the exposure of children detained within the occupation prisons is a violation of all international norms and conventions that guarantee the protection of these minors, their physical, psychological and educational rights and their contact with their families and mentors who guide their lives and deal with them as children.
On Wednesday, about 1 million Palestinian students and students went to their schools, including some 830 thousand students in public schools, the rest in UNRWA schools and the Agency for refugee operations, which marked the start of the new school year 2018-2019 in the occupied Palestinian territories.
