Qatar makes a $ 1.5 million donation to UNRWA´s food program in Gaza

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced today, Sunday, that it has received a donation from the "Qatar Charitable Organization" worth $ 1.5 million to support the food aid program in the Gaza Strip.

A statement issued by (UNRWA) said, "The donation will enable the Agency to continue providing critical food aid to Palestine refugees in Gaza."

According to the statement, the agency is currently providing nearly a million refugees in the besieged sector with food aid.

The statement considered that the donation "reflects the commitment of the State of Qatar to support the vital and life-saving services provided by UNRWA."

Mark Lasaway, UNRWA Chief of Donor Relations, thanked him for this donation, noting that he "supports the agency´s efforts to support refugee families during the illness of Corona Virus (Covid 19)."

"The donation increases the agency´s overall response to the new Corona virus, which includes home delivery of food and medicine, with the aim of reducing the spread of the disease," Lasuawe said, according to the statement.

UNRWA provides life-saving services to approximately 5.6 million Palestine refugees registered with the Agency in its five fields of operation, which include Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.

Its services also include education, health care, relief and social services, infrastructure, camp improvement, protection and microlending.
