Putin signs the extension of the Russian-American New START treaty

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed Friday the extension of the New START treaty with the United States on limiting the nuclear arsenal, after the two countries reached an understanding prior to its expiration.

"Vladimir Putin has signed the federal law on ratification of the treaty extension agreement between Russia and the United States on measures aimed at curtailing and further limiting strategic offensive weapons," the Kremlin said in a statement.
