Palestinian universities graduate 40,000 students annually

The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) said on Tuesday that its study on the "gap between education and the labor market" showed that the unemployment rate among Palestinian graduates exceeded 50% based on the results of the Labor Force Survey.


In a televised interview, Alaa Awad, head of the Central Agency, said that the Palestinian society is a young society, with 68% of its population (5 million) being youth and children, and 31% in the West Bank and Gaza Strip .


Awad stressed that the study conducted was a qualitative study aimed at studying the reasons for the high volume of unemployment among graduates, and showed that Palestinian universities graduate 40 thousand students annually, while the labor market absorbs 8,000 jobs.


The results of the "Transition from Education to Labor Market" survey carried out in cooperation with the International Labor Organization (ILO) in the 2013 and 2015 sessions showed that 69% of graduates and those entering The labor market does not match their qualifications with their work and does not have the ability and skills necessary to meet the requirements of work.
