The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and emigrants of the State of Palestine, on Sunday, confirmed its receipt of the report of the United Nations Secretary-General on the protection of Palestinian civilians, issued pursuant to General Assembly resolution S-20/4, in which the State of Palestine requested the Secretary-General to submit a written report containing his proposals on ways means to ensure the safety, protection and well-being of Palestinian civilians under Israeli occupation and to include recommendations on an international protection mechanism.
In a press statement, the Foreign Office stressed the importance of the responsibility of the States and institutions of the international community in taking all measures to ensure the protection of our people from the violations and crimes of Israel, the occupying Power, in the Occupied Palestinian territory in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including of Jerusalem, as a single geographical unit, by working to consolidate the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination, to embody the independence of the State of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital, and to end the long-standing Israeli occupation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as a representative of the State of Palestine confirmed that it would liaise with the Secretary-General to follow up on the details of his report, in order to take the appropriate decision in that regard.
It noted the need to focus on the accountability of Israel, the occupying Power, on the basis of the norms of international law, in particular the four Geneva Conventions, international human rights law and international criminal law, and to respect those rules in order to be accountable, as well as the need to launch a process Serious political, meaningful through the creation of a multilateral United Nations mechanism, based on the Palestinian peace Initiative presented by President Mahmoud Abbas to the United Nations Security Council in February/February, which is consistent with the rules of international law and the terms of reference of the accepted peace process.
In conclusion, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and expatriates expressed its readiness to work at all political, legal and diplomatic levels to protect the rights of the Palestinian people, their achievements, and to confront and expose Israeli violations and crimes, so as to hold accountable and hold Israeli war criminals to account.
