OCHA: The occupation demolished and confiscated 44 properties belonging to Palestinians within two weeks

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs "OCHA" stated that the Israeli occupation authorities demolished and confiscated 44 Palestinian-owned buildings in Jerusalem and Area C of the West Bank, during the past two weeks, under the pretext of "their lack of licenses Building".

To the OCHA report, the occupation authorities "displaced 29 Palestinians, including 10 children, as a result of the demolitions between last August 30 and September 12, while the livelihoods of about 140 others were affected."

The report added that of these buildings, "about 35 buildings are located in Area C, of which 19 were confiscated without prior warning, which prevented the owners from being able to object in advance."

He continued, "Nine other buildings were also demolished in Jerusalem, including five whose owners had to demolish them after the demolition orders were issued, to avoid paying fines."

The report indicated that, on September 6, the occupation authorities demolished an uninhabited apartment in a multi-storey building in the city of Jenin for "punitive reasons", owned by the family of the martyr Raad Khazem, who killed three settlers last April.

He pointed out that two other houses were damaged, as a result of the bombing of the house of the martyr Khazem, which affected two Palestinian families consisting of 12 people, including eight children.

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs confirmed that, since the beginning of this year, the occupation authorities have demolished 11 homes for "punitive reasons", compared to three in 2021 and seven in 2020.

The report, which is issued every two weeks , stated that "punitive demolitions are a form of collective punishment, which is illegal under international law."

And the report added that the occupation army shot and killed seven Palestinians in various incidents in the West Bank, during the past two weeks, and wounded about 315 Palestinians, including 37 children, at least.

In the same period, settler attacks wounded about 21 Palestinians, and damaged Palestinian property in 27 different cases, according to OCHA.

It is noteworthy that the UN office said, earlier, that demolitions are usually carried out “due to the lack of Israeli permits, which are almost impossible to obtain, or may be for punitive reasons, and which are carried out as part of military activities.” ,” as she put it.

It is noteworthy that the second "Oslo" agreement (1995) classified the lands of the West Bank into three areas; They are: (A) under full Palestinian control, (B) under Israeli security, civil and Palestinian administrative control, and (C) under Israeli civil, administrative and security control, and the latter constitutes about 60 percent of the area of the West Bank.

Palestinians are prohibited from making any change or building in Area C without an Israeli permit, which is almost impossible to obtain, according to international organizations.
