More than 13 million Palestinians in the world by the end of 2019

 reviewed the head of the Statistics Authority, Ola Awad, the conditions of the Palestinians on the eve of the year 2020, stressing that there are more than 13 million Palestinians in the world by the end of 2019.

An increase in the number of Palestinians in the world

The estimated number of Palestinians in the world is about 13.350 million Palestinians; 5.039 million in the state of Palestine, about 1.597 million Palestinians in the lands of 1948, approximately 5.986 million in the Arab countries and about 727 thousand in the foreign countries.

More than a third of the population resides in the Gaza Strip

 

 

The population of the State of Palestine was estimated at 5.039 million; about 3.020 million in the West Bank and 2.019 million in the Gaza Strip. The percentage of the refugee population was about 42% of the total Palestinian population residing in the State of Palestine: 26% in the West Bank and 66% in the Gaza Strip.

Decreased fertility rates

 

 

The total fertility rate decreased during the period (2011-2013) to 4.1 births, compared to 5.9 births in 1999; 3.7 births in the West Bank and 4.5 births in the Gaza Strip.

Decrease in average household size

 

 

The average family size decreased to 5.1 persons in 2017 (compared to 6.1 individuals in 2000); by 4.8 members in the West Bank and 5.6 individuals in the Gaza Strip.

Crude birth and death rates

 

 

The crude birth rate in Palestine in 2019 was 30.2 births per 1,000 residents; 27.7 births in the West Bank and 34.0 births in the Gaza Strip. The crude death rate in the year 2019 in Palestine was 3.7 deaths per 1000 population: 3.9 in the West Bank and 3.5 in the Gaza Strip.

High fertility rates among Palestinian women in Jordan compared to Palestinian women in Syria and Lebanon

 

 

The total fertility rate for Palestinian women residing in Jordan was 3.3 births for the year 2010, compared to 2.5 births in Syria for the year 2010, while the average fertility rate was 2.7 births for Palestinian women in Lebanon for the year 2017.

Palestinian society in the lands of 1948 is a young society

The estimated number of Palestinians in the lands of 1948 was about 1.597 million Palestinians at the end of the year 2019, and the percentage of individuals under fifteen years of age at the end of 2018 was 32.8% for males and 31.8% for females, while the percentage of individuals aged (65 years and over) for males reached 4.4% and for females 5.3%.
