Mladenov: There is no longer a peace process and the Authority is putting pressure on the people of Gaza and not on "Hamas"

The Palestinian Authority has not pressured Hamas, but the population, according to The United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process.

"In fact, the authority did not put pressure on Hamas, but on the population," Mladenov told the French daily Liberación.
Regarding the situation in Gaza, he noted that "daily efforts" were being made to avoid a new military confrontation between Hamas and Israel.

"If you look at the deteriorating humanitarian, political and security situation in Gaza, there must be some form of military confrontation," he said, noting that "in May, there was a difficult weekend, in which the military confrontation seemed inevitable."

On the security situation between Israel and Palestine, Mladenov said that "tourists arriving in Tel Aviv or Ramallah have no idea how complicated it is to keep the situation as it is," noting that "there is a lot of anger, very little horizon."

"There is no longer a peace process, let´s start here," Mladenov said, stressing that there is no alternative to a two-state solution or a solution to the reality of "a state that is either undemocratic or non-Jewish."

He continued: "I don´t think anyone in Israel wants it. The Palestinians will not accept it," he said, stressing that "this conflict is not a real estate trade."
