The Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, Ambassador Riyad Mansour, stressed that the horrific reality experienced by the Palestinian people confirms the urgent need to provide international protection for them, to save human lives and deter further human rights violations, calling on the Security Council To act immediately to implement its relevant decisions, including Resolution 904.
This came in three identical messages sent by Ambassador Mansour, today, Tuesday, to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the Security Council for this month (India), and the President of the United Nations General Assembly, about the continuation of Israeli violence and terrorism against the Palestinian people.
Mansour noted that Israel, the occupying power, has committed human rights violations that amount to war crimes, including the extrajudicial killing of civilians.
In this context, he referred to the death of the 16-year-old girl, Jana Majdi Zakarneh, by an Israeli sniper, on the twelfth of December, during the Israeli aggression against the city of Jenin and its camp, noting that she was hit by a direct bullet in the head while she was trying to reach her cat on the roof of her house.
He also referred to Israel´s attempt, as usual, to evade responsibility for this crime and evade accountability.
Mansour stressed that such pretexts should not be accepted, which led to the death of more than 50 Palestinian children this year alone throughout the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip, among more than 215 other Palestinians in 2022, including 17 women. , referring to the death of the child Diaa Muhammad al-Rimawi (15 years) on the 8th of December in the town of Aboud, northwest of Ramallah, in addition to the injury of three others, one of whom is still critically injured.
Mansour also noted the martyrdom of three Palestinian citizens during the Israeli aggression on the Jenin refugee camp on the eighth of December, and they are Sidqi Zakarneh (29 years old), Tariq Al-Damej (29 years old) and Atta Shalabi (46 years old). old), in addition to the injury of some At least 10 other Palestinians were killed, and medical personnel trying to treat the wounded were also targeted.
He called for taking serious and immediate measures to hold Israel accountable for the war crimes it is committing against the Palestinian people, stressing the need for accountability to include procedures in all international and national courts.
He renewed his call to the Secretary-General and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict to place Israel on the list of countries that commit grave violations against children, stressing the need to hold Israel fully responsible for all its crimes against Palestinian children.
Mansour also called for taking all legitimate political and legal measures to confront the illegal Israeli colonial occupation and the apartheid regime against the Palestinian people, and to ensure accountability and put a final end to this grave injustice against the Palestinian people, who will not give up their inalienable rights, including the right to return, self-determination and freedom.
