Japan ready to support Palestinian general elections

Japan on Friday expressed its readiness to support the Palestinian general elections, following an agreement between Palestinian factions to hold them.


Japan´s representative to Palestine, Mayasuke Magushi, said in a statement during a meeting with PLO Executive Committee Secretary Saeb Erekat that his country "fully supports the holding of free and fair Palestinian general elections", expressing Japan´s readiness to "support the democratic process, including contributing to supervision and oversight."


Erekat discussed with Magushi the latest developments in the internal and regional arenas, including the approval of the Palestinian factions and the Central Committee of Fatah on what was agreed between Fatah and Hamas, on the holding of general elections in the homeland and the diaspora, and at the heart of occupied Jerusalem.


Burrell to Abbas: We support the organization of the Palestinian elections and we will help to make them a success, and Erekat appreciates Japan´s continued support for the Palestinian people in all fields, its adherence to the two-state solution on the 1967 borders, the end of the Israeli occupation, as well as its support for President Mahmoud Abbas´s call for a full-fledged international conference, based on international law.
