Italy announced on Sunday that it recorded 431 deaths with Covid-19 during the past 24 hours, which represents the lowest toll in more than three weeks.
The number of deaths has not decreased since 19 March (427 deaths) to 500. The daily toll provided by the Civil Civil Protection Authority is approximately one third less than the Saturday count (619).
Italy is among the countries hardest hit by the epidemic, with around 20,000 deaths recorded, according to official statistics.
Civil Protection Service chief Angelo Borrelli welcomed the "continuing pressure on our health institutions."
The number of people in intensive care (3343) decreased for the ninth consecutive day.
"We succeeded through the measures taken to relieve the pressure," said Luca Ricchilde, a physician who specializes in chest diseases.
Infection control is especially important in the region of Lombardy (north), as it is the worst affected after registering half of the country´s deaths.
Health authorities in the province have counted 111 deaths in the past 24 hours, which has not happened for nearly a month (14 March).
"The number of deaths" is much lower than yesterday and from the past days, there is a downward trend, "said regional health official Julio Galera.
