Iran frees 9 crew members of oil tanker "winds"

Iran has released nine out of 12 Indians aboard a Panama-flagged oil tanker since July 14, according to the Indian Foreign Ministry.

Iran has accused the carrier "winds" in its custody of transporting smuggled fuel as part of growing tension between the Iranian government, London and Washington on navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Twenty-two Indians remain in Iranian custody, including three crew members of "Winds" and 18 crew members of the British-flagged ship Stina Empero, who were detained by Iran last week.
