The death toll from unrest in Indonesia´s Papua province has risen to 20, the military said on Wednesday.
Regional military spokesman Eko Darianto said 16 civilians had been killed in the Wamena area during the riot, sparked by a rumor that a teacher had racist comments on Papua indigenous students.
Earlier, the provincial health chief said four people, including one soldier, had been killed in clashes between security forces and student demonstrators in the province´s main city, Jayapura, about 250 km from Wamena.
