The administration of US President Donald Trump is heading for the beginning of next month to announce steps aimed at abolishing the right of return of Palestinian refugees, the second Hebrew channel said on Saturday evening.
According to the channel, the US administration will consider that the number of Palestinian refugees is only half a million, not five million, as they are counted by the relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
According to the channel, the current US administration will take a series of measures in this regard, including the announcement of a full suspension of UNRWA funding and the search for a new legal formula to ensure that refugee status is not transferred by inheritance.
She noted that these steps, which may actually begin next week, have been brought to the attention of some Israeli officials and described as "historical".
These steps are primarily aimed at UNRWA and the transfer of responsibility for refugees to the Palestinian Authority, not UNRWA, whose status and function are to be changed and its jurisdiction limited to Palestine refugees only (i.e., half a million people), she said, adding that the Trump administration aspires to cancel Current UNRWA definition.
The US administration will ask Israel to reconsider the mandate of the UNRWA West Bank agency to prevent its funding from Arab countries, the channel said, adding that the US administration would stop funding the UN organization in the West Bank completely.
