Global Health warns of a new “more ferocious” corona mutation

The World Health Organization issued a warning of a new mutant of the Corona virus , which is more powerful and fierce than its predecessors.

And the director of the organization´s regional office, Carissa Etienne, stated that the new mutant is called "lambda", noting that it constitutes 70% of infections with the Corona virus in both Chile and Argentina in the Latin American continent in recent weeks.

Etienne added that the evidence available so far about this mutation indicates its high risk, especially in terms of its rapid transmission and its ability to resist immunity arising from vaccines and recover from the epidemic.

The UN official added: "We still do not have sufficient data to determine the extent of the seriousness of this mutation and its final specifications, but the scientific indicators gathered so far by experts do not give rise to optimism."

This mutation was first detected in Peru in January 2020, and in April 2021 more than 80% of new cases of corona in Peru became from this mutation.

It is reported that on June 14, 2021, the World Health Organization announced this mutant and named it "Lampda variant" and considered it an interesting mutant.
