Venezuelan President Juan Guido of Venezuela has "legitimacy to hold presidential elections" after a deadline set by the European Union for President Nicolas Maduro to call for elections, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Laudrian said on Monday.
Several European countries, led by France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Spain, have given up on Sunday to call for a new presidential election, threatening to recognize his rival Juan Guido as acting president. "We will consult with our European friends today," he told France Inter radio.
