The death toll from the ongoing demonstrations in Iraq has reached 38, including two security forces and 1,648 wounded, a member of the Human Rights Commission in Iraq said Friday.
Dr. Ali al-Bayati, a member of the Human Rights Commission, told Xinhua that the death toll from the ongoing demonstrations in Baghdad and a number of provinces since last Tuesday has risen to 38, including two members of the security forces.
Al-Bayati added that 1,648 people were injured during the demonstrations, including 360 security forces.
The Iraqi capital recorded 1,055 injuries during the demonstrations, while the province of Dhi Qar south of the capital 17 people were killed and 404 wounded, including 139 security personnel, according to Bayati.
Al-Bayati had told Xinhua on Thursday that 26 people, including two security forces and 1509 wounded, including 401 security personnel, were killed in demonstrations in the country.
In a televised address to Iraqis early this morning, Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi warned that his country stands between the choice of the state and the state in light of the protests, calling for the return of normalcy in all provinces and respect for the rule of law.
Iraq has been witnessing since Tuesday demonstrations in the capital Baghdad and other provinces, to protest the lack of services and the spread of unemployment and corruption.
