“Media”: 37 occupational violations against journalists during October

The Ministry of Information monitored (37) violations committed by the Israeli occupation forces against Palestinian journalists, during the period from 1 to 31 October 2020, when the Israeli occupation army targeted (23) journalists on the Less, (5) press crews, and (5) informational pages.

Journalists arrested:

On 10/1/2020, the Israeli occupation forces arrested free journalist Tareq Abu Zaid after storming and blowing up the door of his house in Al-Makhfiya area in Nablus, and confiscated his special equipment.

On October 3, 2020, the Israeli occupation intelligence transferred the journalist Abu Zaid for investigation to the so-called "Petah Tikva investigation center," and the so-called Salem Occupation Military Court extended his detention for a period of 9 days without knowing the charge against him.

On October 6, 2020, the Occupation Court held a trial session for prisoner Mujahid Mardawi, who was arrested on 9/23/2020 while on his return from Malaysia, and his trial was extended 4 times in a row, the last of which was on 10/27/2020.

While the Occupation Court rejected the appeal of the journalist prisoner Yahya Saleh Al-Amor against the decision of his administrative detention, and he was arrested on 9/1/2019.

On 10/22/2020, the Israeli Occupation Court renewed the administrative detention of Mujahid al-Saadi, a journalist, for a period of 4 months, and he was arrested on 6/24/2020, while the Military Occupation Court confirmed the administrative detention decision against him for a period of 3 months on 10/27/2020.

On October 26, 2020, the Israeli occupation authorities transferred the journalist, Tariq Abu Zaid, from the Jalameh Investigation Center to Megiddo Prison, for a trial session with the aim of submitting an indictment against him.

While the Israeli occupation forces detained the family of journalist Abdul Rahman Al-Zahir after storming his home in Nablus on October 27, 2020 and confiscated his equipment, and the so-called Salem Military Court extended his detention for 8 days on October 29/2020.

On October 29, 2020, the occupation forces arrested the free cameraman, Abd al-Amnesty al-Zughair, to prevent him from covering an event in Jerusalem, and he was removed from Al-Aqsa Mosque for a week.

Targeting press crews:

On 11/10/2020, dozens of Palestinian journalists were suffocated and beaten while covering the attempt to reach citizens in the village of Burqa in Ramallah governorate to their lands near an outpost built on the village lands to pick olives. Journalists knew: Adel Abu Nimah, Khaled Sabarneh, Imad Saeed Alaa Badarneh.

On October 13, 2020, the Israeli occupation forces detained a Palestine TV crew and prevented it from covering the violations of the occupation and its settlers on the lands of Beit Dajan village, east of Nablus, and released him later, as the crew included correspondent Bakr Abdel Haq and photographer Samer Al Habash.

On October 16, 2020, the occupation forces targeted the Palestine TV crew, while covering the suppression of the Israeli occupation forces, the weekly anti-settlement march of Kafr Qaddum, which led to their suffocation, and the crew included photographer Muhammad Inaya and correspondent Anal Al-Jada.

On the same date, the Israeli occupation forces targeted a group of journalists with beating and breaking equipment to prevent them from covering clashes that broke out in the town of Burqa in Ramallah, as a result of settlers burning olive trees.

Targeting journalists in the field to prevent them from reporting the Palestinian narrative:

On October 2, 2020, the Israeli occupation forces prevented journalists from covering clashes that erupted after a march organized in Kafr Qaddum, Qalqilya Governorate, in conjunction with the twentieth anniversary of the Palestinian Al-Aqsa Intifada, in which:

Journalist Abdullah Bahsh, “Al-Quds News Network Correspondent”: He was hit by a rubber bullet in the right foot.

Journalist Hassan Nafeh, "freelance photographer": was shot in the hand by a rubber bullet.

Journalist Amid Shehadeh, "Al Arabi TV Reporter": He was hit by a rubber bullet in the right elbow.

Free Photographer Ahmed Talaat Hassan: He had bruises in his knee.

WAFA photographer Ayman Nobani: He was hit by a rubber bullet in the shoulder.

On October 16, 2020, the photographer for Al-Hayat newspaper, Issam Al-Rimawi, was injured by a gas canister in the shoulder while he was covering the village of Beit Dajan, east of Nablus.

Anadolu Agency photographer, Hisham Abu Shakra, was also wounded by a rubber bullet in the neck to prevent him from covering clashes in the village of Burqa, east of Ramallah, after settlers burned olive trees during the harvest season.

On October 23, 2020, the occupation soldiers prevented the famous "Wafa" photographer Al-Wahwah from filming, and threatened to arrest him, in Bab Al-Zawia, in the center of Hebron.

On 10/27/2020, the occupation police detained the free journalist Moaz Amarneh while he was on his way to treatment in Jerusalem, and transferred him to an investigation center despite his possession of an entry permit.

Blocking on social media:

The management of the "Facebook" company has blocked (5) media pages at the instigation of the occupation government, as these pages are concerned with publishing the occupation’s violations against citizens and journalists, including the Al-Quds Al-Youm channel page and the page of the “Ruya” channel correspondent, Hafez Abu Sabra.

Through this detailed monitoring, the Ministry of Information draws attention to the escalation in the number and type of Israeli violations against Palestinian journalists. The Palestinian journalist is exposed to the most severe violations during the transmission of the Palestinian story with the aim of blocking it, which urgently calls for the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution (2222) on the protection of journalists, and the necessity Non-impunity for the Israeli occupation forces.

The Israeli violations during this month ranged in terms of their nature as follows: arrest and violations inside the occupation prisons (8), detention and prevention of coverage (7), injury by rubber bullets (6), suffocation (4), beating and breaking of equipment (3), confiscation of equipment (3). 2), injured by a gas bomb (1), deportation from Al-Aqsa Mosque (1), blocked on social media (5).

The geographical distribution of these violations varied as follows: Occupation prisons (7), Qalqilya (7), Ramallah (6), Nablus (5), Jerusalem (2), Hebron (1).
