A group of unidentified men raped a 15-year-old girl in Bamiyan province, central Afghanistan, a police official said today, Saturday.
Mohamed Reda Yousfi, a spokesman for the Bamyan Police, added that the poor girl was raped on Friday by several men in the village of Dost Pek Folady in Bamyan city, which is the capital of the province of the same name.
The attack occurred when the girl was washing clothes near a river in broad daylight.
Yousfi said: "The incident is under serious investigation, and the police are searching for the perpetrators and dealing with them accordingly."
A relative of the teenage girl stated, "The victim was taken to hospital and is now in stable condition, but we demand the provincial government to deal severely with the perpetrators who fled the area after the attack," he said.
Despite pressure from Women´s Rights in Afghanistan, an independent organization that advocates for women´s rights, civil society and the Afghan government´s efforts to protect women, the level of violence against women across Afghanistan remains high.
