A Palestinian People´s committee said Sunday that 2,000 houses were still not being re-established in the Gaza Strip, although four years after the end of the Israeli operation in the sector in 2014.
In a press statement, the People´s Committee for the siege of Gaza stated that the owners of these houses were still "displaced" without a stable shelter, which required international intervention.
"They have a natural right to return to their homes and to exercise their normal and stable lives, which requires rapid movement to end their complex suffering, as they are suffering over the suffering of the siege and closure," the Committee stressed.
The construction of destroyed houses needs about 150 million dollars, which donor countries are required to fulfill, "as a moral, humanitarian and legal entitlement," she said.
The Committee also called for the lifting of further obstacles to the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, most notably Israel´s restrictions on the introduction of construction materials and the lifting of the embargo imposed since mid-2007 altogether.
Today marks the fourth anniversary of the announcement of an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire agreement to end an Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip that has lasted more than 50 days and resulted in the martyrdom of more than 2,000 Palestinians and extensive destruction of homes and infrastructure.
