At least 19 people were killed in the collapse of a huge gold mine in southern Mali, a local official said.
Six other people were injured when the mine collapsed on Monday night in the province of Sikasso, the official said, noting the mine was huge and smaller operations were also taking place inside.
The cause of the mine´s collapse is yet to be known.
Despite its vast gold reserves, the United Nations classifies Mali, located in West Africa, as one of the world´s poorest countries.
