The statistics said, in a report on the occasion of World Population Day, that the population of the West Bank is about 3.19 million, of whom 1.62 million are males and 1.57 million are female, while the population of the Gaza Strip is estimated at about 2.17 million, including 1.10 million males and 1.07 million females. .

 

The "Statistics" estimates the percentage of individuals in the age group (0-14 years) in the middle of 2022 to be about 38% of the total population in Palestine, 36% in the West Bank and 41% in the Gaza Strip.

 

The report notes a decrease in the percentage of individuals aged 65 years and over to about 3% in Palestine, 4% in the West Bank and 3% in the Gaza Strip.

 

The total fertility rate decreased during the period (2017-2019) to 3.8 births per woman, compared to 4.6 births during the period 1999-2003; This rate reached 3.8 in the West Bank, compared to 3.9 in the Gaza Strip.

 

The fertility rate in urban areas was 3.8, compared to 4.4 in the countryside and 3.5 in the Palestinian camps.

 

The "Statistics" said that the results of the labor force survey for the year 2021 indicate that 11% of households are headed by females in Palestine, 12% in the West Bank and 10% in the Gaza Strip.

 

Estimates based on the results of the Labor Force Survey in 2021 and the General Census of Population, Housing and Establishments 2017 indicate a decrease in the average family size in Palestine compared to 2007, where the average family size decreased to 5 members in 2021 compared to 5.8 individuals in 2007.

 

The average family size in the West Bank decreased to 4.7 members in 2021 compared to 5.5 members in 2007, and in the Gaza Strip, the average family size decreased to 5.6 members in 2021 compared to 6.5 in 2007.

 

The data of the Labor Force Survey for the year 2021 indicated that the illiteracy rate among individuals aged 15 years and over in Palestine was 2.3%, and this rate varied greatly between males and females, reaching 1.2% among males, while among females it reached 3.5%.

 

The data also indicated that the percentage of individuals (15 years and over) who completed university education with a bachelor’s degree or higher reached 17%, with 16% for males and 19% for females, while the percentage of individuals who did not complete any educational stage reached 7%, at 6% for males and 9% for females.

 

The data indicate that the unemployment rate of participants in the labor force in 2021 reached 26% in Palestine, 16% in the West Bank and 47% in the Gaza Strip, and the unemployment rate in Palestine among female labor force participants reached 43%, compared to 22% Among males participating in the labor force
