11 injured in New Orleans, Louisiana

Eleven people were shot and wounded, two of them seriously, in a shooting in a tourist neighborhood in New Orleans, the largest city in Louisiana.

New Orleans police officers near the scene said they heard gunfire and when they arrived, they found several people shot, "the statement said.

 

Ten of the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals and one was taken by private means to hospital. US authorities said two of the wounded were in "critical condition."

The shooting took place at the entrance to the "French Quarter", a popular tourist attraction at the end of the Thanksgiving weekend, an occasion for American football fans to gather to watch the derby that brings together the Grambling State University and Southern University teams.
