The Committee to Support Journalists sent an urgent appeal to all international human rights institutions and the International Committee of the Red Cross, calling on them to intervene seriously and effectively, to stop the crimes of the occupation it violates against journalists and prisoners of information in the prisons of the occupation, especially increasing torture and medical neglect. Against the sick of them, which led to a serious deterioration in their health.
This came as a result of what the prisoner, media student Mays Abu Ghosh, a resident of Qalandia camp, revealed in a message that reached her family about the deliberate neglect of the difficult health situation and her need to follow up in the hospital as a result of the torture she was subjected to during the investigation.
In the message, Abu Ghosh confirmed that she went to the hospital about 4 months ago and needed urgent treatment after the pain of sweeping her bones, spine, feet, hands and head, in addition to her feeling of electricity hitting the left half of her head, while the Prison Administration provides ointments and painkillers only.
Abu Ghosh added in the letter, that she explained the health status of the Red Cross without knowing the response or how to follow up by the cross, stressing her need to follow up in the hospital, especially after she was informed of bone problems.
The Committee to Support Journalists indicated that these diseases and aches raided the health of the journalist Abu Ghosh after a military investigation that included systematic psychological and physical torture, and included a ghost in various ways and beatings on the face and body that lasted for 32 days, after her arrest in August of 2019 to be sentenced to 16 months imprisonment .
The committee also demanded the release of the journalist, Mohammed Amin Abu Daqqa, a resident of the town of Abasan, east of Khan Yunis, who was arrested by the occupation forces last week, upon his return from Jordan to Palestine, where he traveled to receive cancer treatment. He was transferred to the investigation at the Ashkelon detention center without knowing the reasons, despite his difficult health condition, as he suffers from addition to cancer from nerve problems and suffers from constant tremors, and he had a liver resection several years ago.
She said, "The policy of medical negligence of prisoners is one of many violations practiced by the occupation authorities against prisoners and prisoners, who suffer from chronic and serious diseases and in need of urgent medical intervention to save their lives in light of the poor conditions inside prisons and fear of infection with the Corona virus."
The Committee condemned the occupation authorities ’violations of the rights of prisoners in general and of detained journalists in particular, which are guaranteed under international agreements and covenants regarding the right of detainees to receive the necessary treatment and medical care, as the Fourth Geneva Convention guaranteed articles (76), (85), (91) and (92) The prisoners´ right to receive periodic medical care, and to provide them with the necessary treatment from the diseases they suffer from, and stipulates the necessity of providing health clinics and specialized doctors to inspect the prisoners, as the occupation authorities disclaim their obligations according to international covenants, which leads to exacerbating the health conditions of prisoners and prisoners.
