The Japanese government and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, "UNRWA", signed today, Thursday, two donation agreements worth 40 million dollars.
UNRWA stated in a statement that out of the total amount of this donation, an amount of 30.2 million dollars will be allocated to enable it to continue providing important and basic services to Palestine refugees in all five fields of operations, while another approximately 9.5 million dollars will be used for the expansion of school complexes. Japan’s representative to the State of Palestine, Magoshi Masayuki, said, “This donation represents our firm commitment and solidarity towards Palestine refugees at a time when the region continues to experience serious humanitarian crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic.”

According to the UNRWA statement, "The Japanese government is a loyal donor to UNRWA, by donating to the Agency since 1953. In 2020, the Japanese government was the fifth largest total contributor to the Agency, and it played a decisive role at a time when UNRWA faced an existential crisis.
